Mesquite was established in 1873 by the Texas and Pacific Railway and was incorporated in 1887. It was a city where farming and cotton production was the main source of livelihood of the residents. Casinos were opened in later years to help improve the economy of the city. It later on became a capital of casinos and resorts.

Mesquite is located in the Virgin River Valley and is one of the favorite tourist destinations worldwide. Its popularity is largely attributed to the many golf courses and casinos in the area.

Aside from golf courses and casinos, Mesquite is also renowned for its many beautiful beaches. Tourists enjoy water activities here such as surfing, sailing, and scuba diving.

Because of the popularity of casinos, some resorts have incorporated casinos in their premises. Thus visitors can play casino games while at the same time enjoying the oceanfront view of the beach.

Indeed, Mesquite is a small city but packed with many beautiful and outstanding attractions, resorts, beaches combined with modern infrastructures. The Mesquite Championship Rodeo is one of the most awaited events every year. This started in 1958, showcasing the talents of the Texan cowboys. It is very popular that it is always covered by many national television networks.

The Mesquite Arts Center hosts live performances of popular groups, including the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra, Mesquite Community Band, Mesquite Community Theater and many other art groups. It also houses a large collection of exhibited artworks. This is frequented by lovers of the art and culture.
Car racing lovers go to the Devil's Bowl Speedway to watch full action-packed car racing competitions, held every March and November.
