Virginia Beach is a place full of marvelous attractions, awesome landscapes, blue skies and activities that will imprint deep in your memories. Virginia Beach has always been a great tourist destination and a major attraction for the tourists of all over the world. It is obvious that as the Virginia is a beach destination, the vacations are generally concentrated around the beach and oceanfront boardwalk. The city of Virginia Beach has grabbed the position of being one of the most sought after tourist destinations and summer resort of the state. Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge is one of the most exciting places in the city of Virginia. This marvelous wildlife refuge covers an area of about nine thousand acres situated amidst the coastline of barrier islands of Atlantic and Gulf coasts. This is an ideal shelter for thousands of permanent and migratory birds. Around ten thousand snow geese and ducks visit the site every year during fall usually during the month of December. This place is also an ideal hide out for a variety of endangered species of wild creatures such as piping plovers, peregrine falcons, loggerhead sea turtles and bald eagles.

Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center is the largest aquarium in the state with more than seventy thousand gallons of water in two buildings creating separate aquarium and natural habitat for living animals. The museum also arranges ocean excursion for those who are interested in catching the glimpses of whales or dolphins. One can also go for a cheap boat tour arranged by the museum itself.

There is also a separate habitat created for sharks and turtles, where visitors can see these oceanic creatures closely and learn about social habitats. The museum also offers a 3-D IMAX theater that is able to accommodate around three hundred spectators at a time. This is the best way of capturing the larger than life version of these sea creatures. The Virginia Marine Science Museum is a perfect place for a family outing in the city.

First Landing State Park is another must visit and quite interesting site for camping or picnicking. It was also a very prominent site as Europeans landed here for the very first time. The state park covers around thirty kilometers of area offering excellent opportunities for hiking, cycling and jogging. The park also exhibits Chesapeake Bay Center that is a great place for gathering information about the area. This park is also designated as a National Natural Landmark for its excellent habitat.
