Tourist Attractions in Mulhouse

Mulhouse is a city located in eastern France. It is basically a small division that is located very close to German and Swiss borders. It is the second largest city in the Alsace Region only behind Strasbourg. Mulhouse is the most important of all communes which are united to form Communaute d'agglomeration Mulhouse Alsace Agglomeration. The city of Mulhouse is known for its museums and particularly those museums which showcase the growth of automobiles (Cite de l'Automobile) and trains (Musee Français du Chemin de Fer). These museums are the largest in France respectively in their categories. An industrial town is setup in this city which is called as "French Manchester". Two tributaries of river Rhine, Doller flow through the city of Mulhouse.

Tourist Sites:

Hotel de Ville:

This is a town hall that was built in 16th century during the time of Renaissance. The Rhenish Renaissance Style of Architecture is clearly visible from the style of walls and other surroundings. This is described as "palais magnifique et tout dore" which means 'a splendid palace in gold'. This hall is known for its paintings which offer a glimpse of vices and virtues.

Place de la Bourse:

It is a building and society (Societe Industrielle de Mulhouse) located in Nouveau Quartier and it belonged to 19th century.

French National Railway Museum:

French National Railway Museum (Cite du train) is the biggest railway museum in the world. This museum was started in 1961 when the local municipality offered the land to SNCF to preserve and display their historical rolling stock.

Cite de l'Automobile:

Cite de l'Automobile is the automobile museum of Mulhouse. It has the vintage collection of automobiles. This museum also has a large collection of Bugatti motor vehicles.

Transport:

Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg International Airport is an international airport which serves Basel Mulhouse and Freiburg. This airport handles the traffic going to these three places.

The city has its own TGV terminal which offers a direct link to Basel.

The local public transport is handled by a tram network.
