Some Of The Top Rated Tourist Attractions In Egypt

Most tourist attractions in Egypt are found on various historical sites such as the temples and pyramids. These were built during the period of the Arabian and Ottoman rule. The country was the land of the Pharaohs and the Valley of the Kings where the great rulers were preserved is still a tourist destination. The various pyramids in Giza were built by the ancient civilization as tombs or great monuments for the great Kings and nobles. The Great Pyramid of Khufu which is said to be the only remainder of the seven ancient wonders of the world is the oldest and largest pyramid in this country. It took about 20 years to complete it and, about 2 million blocks of limestone were used to build it.

The four Oases (Bahanya, Farafla, Dakla, and Khalga) in the Western part of Egypt are another famous tourist attraction. These Oases are located along a depression in the Great Desert Circuit which runs approximately 621 miles. The Bedouin tribes who are the local people have a unique culture and they are very entertaining to visitors. The Oases of Bahanya and Farafla have hot springs and palm groves. Dakla and Khalga have ruins which commemorates the historical ancient route to Sudan. Another tourist destination is the Khan Al-Khalili market where almost everything is sold. This is one of largest markets in the world and it is situated in Cairo the capital city of Egypt.

Cairo has both ancient and modern tourist attractions. Coptic Cairo is the oldest part in the city and was once the stronghold of Babylon. Some walls of Babylon still exist and as you tour this area, you will also see the first mosque that was built in Egypt. The place is also the ancient origin of the Coptic Christian community where five of the ancient churches still exist. Among the churches toured are Al-Muallaqa (Hanging Church) this is the oldest Christian church and St Sergius is where the Holy family frequently took refuge during their flight to Egypt. Cairo is a beautiful city and has everything you need from big hotels, restaurants, entertainment and all types of monuments.

The Red Sea which is also referred to as Red Sea Riviera is an attractive sight to every tourist. The history in the Bible about the Israelites crossing the mighty sea becomes a reality when you view the sea. Interesting places to visit here include El Gouna, Safaga and Hurghada. Water sports and golf club courses are good examples of activities involved in this part of the country. The Egyptian Museum of Antiques is another tourist destination. This museum has over 100,000 artifacts in 107 halls. Some of the artifacts on show include treasures from ancient Egypt, a statue of the Khafre (Chephren) and a solid gold, death mask. There is also the Tutankhaman Gallery where treasures from the tomb of the Boy King are displayed. You will also have a chance to tour the Royal Mummy room which contains the mummies of the Egyptian pharaohs who ruled between the 18th and the 20th Dynasties.
