Caribbean Attractions - An Introduction to Great Vacation Experiences

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The Caribbean's most famous attractions offer a chance for vacationers to embrace nature, go adventuring and experience wildlife up close.

Waterfall Hikes / Dunn's River Falls
The most famous waterfalls in the Caribbean is located on Jamaica at Dunn's River Falls. Visitors climb the waterfalls in a daisy chain of people. The climb up the rocks and through the splashing water is 600 feet and challenging, but it draws all ages and anyone who is moderately fit.

Other islands have numerous and sometimes more challenging hikes through rain forests before reaching waterfalls. Islands with well-known falls include St. Lucia, Trinidad, Dominica and Grenada.

Touring Historical Towns
Anyone with an interest in history will find Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, as a starting point for understanding the history of the Caribbean. Sites include the forts of San Cristobal and El Morro, both built in the 1500s; and La Fortaleza, also built in the 1500s and the oldest governor's mansion in the Western Hemisphere still in use.

Many other Caribbean destinations such as the British Virgin Islands still have forts, buildings and churches dating back centuries to the time of the original Spanish, Dutch and British explorers.

Canopying and Cave Tubing
People who take western Caribbean cruises will have the chance to try two activities popular on Central American stops -- canopying and cave tubing.

Canopying is common in countries such as Honduras and Costa Rica. Visitors climb a ladder up a tree as high as 100 feet into the air. They are strapped to zip lines and glide from one tree to another with views of rain forests, monkeys and mountains.

Fun seekers will find that cave tubing in Belize is the most popular adventure excursion in the country. Visitors go to Sibun Caves Branch Archaeological Park, where they jump into a grotto, sink into a large inner tube, and float down a river and through a series of dark caves once used by Mayans for religious ceremonies.

Swimming with Dolphins, Sea Turtles, Barracuda and Sting Rays
A half dozen destinations including Cancun and the Bahamas offer visitors a chance to swim with trained dolphins in large enclosed pens. People have a chance to be dragged through the water, thrown into the air and even get a hug.

Barracuda usually don't hug people, but for anyone with an interest in seeing them, various snorkeling trips at places like the U.S. Virgin Islands might provide a chance at spotting them. Another swimming adventure is in Barbados, which is one of the few locations with excursions to swim with giant sea turtles that have become comfortable having people in the water with them.

The most famous experience with sea life is Stingray City off Grand Cayman. Vacationers can take excursion boats out to a sandbar where a large school of sting ray have become used to swimming with people and even touching them. Visitors jump into the water, which is only three or four feet deep, and go snorkeling with the sting rays.

Vacationers will find an array of Caribbean attractions that will suit many interests and provide a chance to do more than spend time on the beach.

America the Strange - 5 Exceptioanally Bizarre Texas Attractions

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Our quest to seek out America's most bizarre attractions continues as we venture East from California to Texas. Shovel in hand; we've dug deep to unearth these five fabulously bizarre Lone Star State attractions:

1. Beer Can House: Houston, Texas

To build a home made of 39,000 beer cans is impressive. To drink a 6 pack every day for 18 years to get those 39,000 beer cans is superhuman. But that's exactly what late owner John Milkovisch did, drinking down some 14,000 litres of beer to build this; his aluminium dream home.

With all that alcohol in his system, you'd think the construction would be shoddy, but look closely and you'll see that each can is placed with perfect artisan-like precision. Not one can or metal tab out of place.

Spike TV was so impressed with Jon's work in fact; they named him "Man Of The Week" back in 2004. We doubt they could say the same about his liver.

2. Missile Base Bachelor Pad: Oplin, Texas

The Berlin wall may have long fallen, but you can still experience Cold War chic living at its best. Descend 180 feet down the winding staircases of the former Atlas missile silo and you'll land in the subterranean home of former home renovator, Bruce Townsley (remember, you can't knock on a missile silo; so let him know you're coming in advance).

Townsley's pad is complete with all the latest mod cons and boasts a full kitchen, living room, bathroom and nuclear escape tube (no joke). Just follow Bill as he takes you through his home and ventures deep into the heart of the surrounding silos in this, his very own nuclear missile base (he bought it off the feds years ago).

While Townsley won't hand you the nuclear launch codes, he will hand you a truly unique Texas tourist experience.

3. Cathedral of Junk: Austin, Texas

The old adage, one's man junk is another man's treasure could not be truer here. Over 20+ years, Vince Hanneman, has brought together over 60 tons of junk to create an architectural masterpiece worthy of even Frank Lloyd Wright.

Vince's eclectic collection of lawn mowers, car bumpers, circuit boards, bottles and more spans over multiple levels and connect via spiraling staircases. There's even a "throne" room, where junk king Vince sits nobly and answers your deepest junk related questions.

If you're at all concerned about the Cathedral's structural integrity, don't be. Engineers have deemed Hanneman's structure strong enough to survive even the strongest of the fierce Texas storms.

4. World's Largest Urban Bat Colony: Austin, Texas

Hold on to your utility belts and brace yourself for the biggest bat signal outside of Gotham City. At dusk, from mid March to November, you can witness over 1.5 million Mexican long tailed bats take flight over Austin's Congress Avenue Bridge.

These mysterious creatures of the night are some of the city's best pest controllers, swallowing up an estimated 10 to 30 thousand pounds of insects every night. Just be sure to wear a hat, eventually those insects are going to come out the other end.

5. Barney Smith's Toilet Seat Art Museum: San Antonio, Texas

As a former master plumber, Barney Smith's transition to toilet seat artist was a natural one. His career it seems was always destined to go down the toilet. To date, the down to earth octogenarian has fashioned some 612 decorative toilet seats, a number truly worthy of a standing ovation.

Inspired by his life and travels, Smith vows never to sell any of his porcelain thrones (they're actually made of pressed wood), declaring them each to have deep personal meaning. Forget the toilet humor, this is a man who takes his work very seriously.

In Seville, there is a royal palace and gardens that are also open for inspection, the Alcazar. The Torre del Oro tower, currently a maritime museum with many interesting exhibits to view, has an interesting history as a fortification built by the Moors to protect Seville from invasion.

Take a trip outside the cities and you will find there is still more to see and do. The Mediterranean is a very popular destination for sun seekers. Beautiful scenery, wonderful beaches and great weather coupled with lovely old towns to explore make the cost an ideal vacation spot. Visit Malaga on the Costa del Sol for a perfect example. Myrtle Beach Attractions

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Myrtle Beach is growing into a very popular vacation destination and here are some main reasons for that growth. The main reason that Myrtle is so popular is that is located on the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and has some of the most beautiful shorelines around. The other large reason is because of all the attractions located so close to eachother. Here are some of the main ones that drive people in.

One great attraction is the Carolina Opry. If you only see one show, this is the one! The Carolina Opry has won every major South Carolina tourism award including Most Outstanding Attraction and the prestigious Governor's Cup. Year after year The Carolina Opry is voted the Best Show by readers of the Myrtle Beach Sun News. And it's the only show that has been featured on NBC Nightly News, CNN, TNN, and USA Today, which called it "A Big Hit".

Another great site is the the Family Kingdom Waterpark, Which is located right on the ocean itself! You can splash your way through the "coolest" fun at the beach! Feel the thrill of speeding down a water slide or simply relax as you drift down the cool, refreshing water of a lazy river. This is an excellent place to take the kids if you just want to unwind.

One if the Newest Attractions that has just opened is the Hard Rock Park! It is the worlds ONLY! Rock and Roll Theme Park and has just become operational this spring! There are tons of rides and Rollercoasters and daily live shows in the Ampitheater. This is sure to be one of the great attractions of Myrtle Beach in the near future.

If you were thinking about staying in Myrtle Beach these are some of the main reasons you might stay right! Well I have recently vacationed there and had and excellent time because I found a great Hotel that was located just minutes from all of these attractions and was even exactly beside the Family Kingdom Waterpark. This hotel was the Westgate Hotel and was located oceanfront right on the Grand strand. It has beautiful views of the ocean and had excellent customer service! The best part was the price at just over 100 Dollars a night you save a ton of money, on which you can use to view many of the attractions that I had mentioned.

The beauty that abounds in this Ozark's paradise is enough to provide you with the incentive you need to travel to the area. However, where you go may be dictated by how much you can afford.

From a walk along the lake's edge to a picnic lunch or swimming excursion, there are plenty of low cost activities for the whole family to enjoy and take in when traveling to this beautiful area.

Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery

You can explore the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery at no cost to you. The Hatchery, which provides trout to the nearby White River, is located outside of the Branson city limits. However, it is not too far away, a mere six miles to the southwest. This is the largest facility in Missouri to produce and stock trout. This is done through the Conservation Trout Production Program through Missouri's Department of Conservation.

The Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery was built in 1957. The first successful trout production occurred back in 1958. On average, 301,000 lbs. of trout are produced here each year. These catchable trout make up over one million trout that are produced annually.

From this million, close to 500,000 trout each year is placed in Lake Teneycomo. The Lake also receives 225,000 trout from Neosho National Fish Hatchery, which is located in the Southwest Ozarks. All of the other trout produced by the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery is stocked in trout management areas around Missouri. This, of course, includes the White River, which is known for its successful trout fishing programs.

Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery is responsible for producing both rainbow and brown trout in order to meet Conservation quotas. The facilities at the hatchery provide both eggs and fingerlings so trout is successfully produced. On over 211 acres (84 acres developed), you will enjoy a visit to the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery. A quarter of a million visitors come to the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery when they visit Branson, Missouri, each year.

Top 10 Tourist Attractions in Dubai

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Dubai is one of the world's fastest expanding cities and is also a bustling metropolitan. It is always brimming with life and teeming with activity and you just cannot manage to sleep in this city of life. It is a part of the UAE and is situated in the middle-east and all of its money comes from its oil resources and of course, tourism.

Tourism is a booming industry in Dubai and there are so many things for a tourist to do in Dubai, that no amount of time will be sufficient to visit every attraction in this city. So I'll just round up tell you about the best of Dubai's attractions. Dubai is currently constructing the world's tallest tower, the Burj-Dubai Tower. The height of the Burj-Dubai tower has not been revealed as yet, but they are competing with other skyscrapers being built around the world. The Burj-Dubai tower is being built in close proximity to the Dubai Mall.

The Dubai Mall is one of the world's largest malls. The Dubai mall coupled with the Mall of the Emirates is like heaven on earth for shoppers, because there is literally nothing that you will not find in these shopping malls. Dubai is known for shopping and it has raised its standards several fold, thanks to these 2 malls. The malls in Dubai play host to every single major brand in the world. So you don't have to worry about running out of variety.

The next stop in the line is The Restless Planet, which is situated in the City of Arabia. The City of Arabia is a very huge theme park which is currently under construction, but will be open to visitors very soon. The Restless planet is actually a reconstruction of the famous Jurassic Park. It will consist of a horde of life-size robotic dinosaurs, each of which takes more than 6 months and a whole team of over-qualified professionals and researchers to build. Some of them are even being programmed to lunge at park visitors as they pass by. Impressed?

Next on the tour is Ski Dubai, the world's largest indoor ski slope. Believe me when I say it is HUGE. It even has an indoor ski lift to take people to the top of the slope! Now how's that for a surprise? Well, if you do get bored of skiing, you can always try out sand boarding, which is nothing but snowboarding, but on sand. The sand boarding session is usually coupled with the Dune bashing session, which is something that you absolutely cannot miss. The Dubai desert safari usually lasts for around half an hour, which usually involves driving on the edge of treacherously shaped sand dunes, not knowing whether or not you'll live to see the next day's light. It involves a million times more adrenalin than going on a roller coaster! Do not miss this. This is the highlight of your Dubai tour.

Well, there's more. Dubailand, the world's largest amusement park is being built as you read and when it throws open its gates to visitors, rest assured that you can expect nothing less than extravagant. Apart from these attractions, Dubai is also building three islands (they are totally man-made), all shaped like palm trees, which mostly consist of residential complexes and uber-sexy beach bungalows, each with a private beach! If you are lucky enough, you can easily spot the Palm Islands, from the air just before you land at Dubai Airport. Even if you do not manage to catch it then, you can always take a private aerial tour of Dubai in a helicopter.

There are also several projects which are coming up like 'The Cloud, Dubai', which is actually a resort, that is being built on stilts! Yeah. You read right. It is being mounted on 300 m poles which will extend right into the clouds over the Dubai skies. There is also another project, the Hydropolis, the 1st totally underwater hotel. The hotel's guests will be brought to the hotel in submarines or a helicopter! Stunned! Well, don't be, because this is just the tip of the iceberg.

With an alarming number of 5 star hotels coming up, Dubai has groomed itself to be the most exciting place for the modern traveler. Right from skiing, to exotic hotels, to typical Arabian attractions, Dubai has it all and it will stop at nothing to attract tourists from all around the world to feast on its magnificence. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and have some fun!

The Temples, Monasteries, Architecture, View Points, Churches, and art galleries are just a few places people visit time after time.

The Mall for example is the main shopping centre and also the main meeting place for the people in Shimla. The mall houses many restaurants, clubs, bars, banks and post offices. The Top UK Tourist Attractions Outside Of London

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Are you planning a vacation to the UK in the near future? Are you unsure about the best places to visit during your trip to England? Quite a lot of people who travel to the UK do not even venture outside of the capital, London. I have to admit there is a lot going on and to see in this famous city but there are many more amazing places to visit in England before you make your way back home.

I am from England myself, I live in the countries second biggest city which is called Birmingham. I love to visit London for at least one weekend in the year but in this article I am going to write about some places to visit that are located outside of the capital.

I personally think that York in the north of England is a lovely place to spend a couple of days. There are some top restuarants and the cobbled pavements are quite unique.

Bath in the south west of the country would be my second choice. The Roman Baths are quite amazing and there is a superb shop dedicated to all things to do with Christmas, in the centre of the town.

I always spend one week of the summer in the English Riviera. This is basically Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. The coastal views and the coastal walks are quite spectacular.

Other places that I would strongly recommend people to visit in the UK are; Blenheim Palace, Warwick Castle, Ludlow and Stratford-upon-Avon.

Florida: The Lost Attractions

Image : http://www.flickr.com

When you say Florida, what comes to most people's minds?

Orlando and Disney World.

But what happens when you've visited Disney, Universal and Sea World? Is there anything else to do? How about visiting some of the smaller attractions - the ones that get tend to get lost in the shuffle.

Lost? Where Did They Go?

Before "The Mouse" arrived in Florida, there were attractions that we Floridians enjoyed. Smaller, with few or no thrill rides, but high in satisfaction. Some of these attractions withered away after Disney, but many of them adapted and flourished. Let's take a look at a few of these survivors.

Central Florida

As you might guess, many of these smaller attractions are in the Central Florida area, an easy commute from Disney. Some of these attractions include:

Busch Gardens: My personal favorite of all the lost attractions. Easily explored in a full day, it has an African safari theme. From huge roller coasters, to water rides to a trip through an African savannah, there is something for everyone.

Gatorland: I visited Gatorland a million times as a child. Okay, maybe not exactly a million, but it was a popular destination for school field trips B.D. (Before Disney). There are alligators galore and fun shows to watch.

Cypress Gardens: This lost attraction really was lost for awhile -- it had closed its doors, with no intention of re-opening. But miracles do happen, because Cypress Gardens is back and more wonderful than ever! It's more than just a garden by the way -- there are myriad shows and even some thrill rides.

North Florida

There are a ton of small attractions in North Florida, and pretty much all of them reside in St. Augustine. Here are a few of them for your consideration:

Fountain of Youth: More historic than anything, it is the site of the original Fountain of Youth - the one of the legend. When you visit, you can drink from the spring's waters. Does it work? I'll have to leave that to you.

Ripley's Believe it or Not: This was the first of all the Ripley's museums, and perhaps the best. All kinds of oddities abound. It is fun and well worth a visit.

Potter's Wax Museum: Who know who you'll run into at this lost attraction? From historic figures to celebrities, the waxworks are a great way to spend an hour or two.

Where Are Some Others?

Lost attractions can be found all over Florida, from the Panhandle to the Keys; you just have to know where to find them. For more information on these Florida wonders, visit http://www.great-florida-vacations.com/florida-attractions.html

The Top 5 Attractions in Egypt

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Egypt is a country full of fascinating people, cultures and history, and one of the most popular destinations in northern Africa. While many head to the Sinai Peninsula to enjoy the "Red Sea Riviera", just as many visit the county to take in the historical sites. These form the top attractions in Egypt, and are among the most famous sites in the entire world.

Of course no list of the top five attractions in Egypt would be complete without the great Pyramids of Giza. Several generations of Egyptian royalty constructed their great burial shrines on the plains outside of Cairo, and in addition to the massive stone pyramids, the area houses hundreds of "mastaba" structures that served as the final resting places for the relations and important court servants of the ancient Pharaohs. The location is also the home of the famous Sphinx.

While in the Cairo area almost every visitor to the city spends at least one day touring the Cairo Museum. This is the home of the treasures of Tutankhamun, the famous "cache" of royal mummies discovered in the 1870s, and some of the most well-known artifacts of Egyptian history.

To see the actual and original homes of many of the treasures contained within the Cairo Museum, visitors must head up the Nile and make a visit to the Valley of the Kings. The burial location for most of the pharaohs of the "New Kingdom", the Valley of the Kings is one of the most heavily visited attractions in Egypt. Luckier tourists can enter the tomb of Tutankhamun or walk along the beautiful temple belonging to Queen Hatshepsut, among many other sites.

Heading back towards the river brings a visitor to yet another of the remarkably popular attractions in Egypt, and that is the Temple complex at Luxor. Here the historic capital of both the Middle and New Kingdom pharaohs can still be seen. The site is divided by the Nile and consists of the East Bank sites of Luxor Temple and the Temple of Karnak. On the West Bank, visitors can take in the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens as well.

Finally among the top five attractions in Egypt is the site known as Abu Simbel. Both a historic site and tiny village, it was saved from destruction after the Aswan Dam began flooding Lake Nasser in the 1960s. It is home to beautiful and glorious temples which were relocated to higher ground and include the Great Temple of Ramesses II, which is one of the most well recognized attractions in Egypt.

Florida Tourist Attractions - Clearwater Beach, Tampa Bay Area

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Despite being overdeveloped and lined with beach front cookie-cutter hotels, Clearwater Beach draws visitors because of incredible white-sand beaches, a large fishing fleet , and it's proximity to Tampa and St Petersburg. It's also a prime area for kayaking, shelling, bicycling and sunning yourself on the beach - which just about sums up the local 'tourist attractions.' Unless you count beach volleyball on Clearwater Beach, which is pretty darn good, too.

This northernmost barrier island is about 22 miles north of St Pete Beach and 2 miles west of downtown Clearwater (a separate city on the mainland) over the Memorial Causeway (Hwy 60). From here the road south is S Gulfview Blvd and north is Mandalay Ave, Clearwater's main drag. Pier 60 is right at the roundabout where these three roads meet. From St Petersburg, it's about a 1/2 an hour drive or a 1 1/2 hour bus ride. Although crowded, the scale of the island is humane (only 3.5 miles long) and it's easy to get around.

- Pinellas Trail

This 47-mile paved bicycle trail, built on the abandoned CSX railway bed, runs from St Petersburg to Tarpon Springs. To date, it's the longest urban trail in the country. It's also very smooth - smooth enough for inline skates or roller skates as well as bicycles. There are lots of stops along the way, with cafes, pubs, bike shops, skate shops and fast-food places. As it's on the route of the old railway, the corridor cuts through widely carnied terrain: sometimes you're in the middle of downtown, sometimes along waterways, sometimes among orange groves and sometimes you're riding practically through people's backyards.

From the Clearwater Beach International Youth Hotel, which rents bikes, head over the causeway, and ride north on fort Harrison Ave and east on Jones St for about three blocks. You'll pick up the southern end of the Clearwater to Tarpon Springs section of the path. It's 13.2 miles from Jones St to Tarpon Ave.

Cancun Attractions, Excursions and Tours

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Cancun attractions can make a vacation memorable thanks to dolphins, ancient Mayan ruins and modern-day fun.

Many destinations on ocean shores have standard attractions such as swimming, golfing and cycling. But what makes a vacation more memorable are the things to do that are hard to find elsewhere.

Cancun is one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean because it has numerous high-rise hotels packed together on the strip of land surrounding Nichupe Lagoon and facing out to the sea. Inexpensive public buses make it easy for tourists to travel up and down the strip to restaurants, shops and other activities to fill a day.

But it's the attractions outside of the city that make Cancun unique for tourists, starting with ancient Mayan ruins.

One of the largest and most famous ruins is located at Chichen Itza. The site contains numerous giant stone buildings in excellent condition. The most dominant is the Temple of Kukulkan or El Castillo (the Castle), a step pyramid rising from the the center of town. Other major buildings include Temple of Warriors, the Great Ball Court and the "El Caracol" observatory temple.

Other Mayan ruins located near Cancun include Calakmul, Palenque, Tulum and Uxmal.

Anyone with an interest in nature will want to visit Isla Mujeres, which is located across the water from Cancun. Visitors can boat to the island for snorkeling opportunities, a turtle sanctuary and the Garrafon National Park. While there they can go swimming with the dolphins at Dolphin Discovery.

Ecotourism is a major part of other attractions in the area including the open-sea aquarium and water theme park at Xel-Ha, the eco-tourism and education attraction at Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, and Xcaret, which has Mayan ruins, a snorkeling lagoon and an underground river through which visitors can float.

If nature and ancient history aren't enough, visitors also can take advantage of modern-day activities. They include a unique boat ride called The Rocket, a visit to The Plaza de Toros bullfighting ring or the Parque Nizuc water park.

Ontario Tourist Attractions, 6 Must See Events

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Ontario has many tourist attractions going on at any time of the year. To me there are a few outstanding ones. Those are the attractions you want to come back to every time and show them to your friends from back home. If you have visited those, you have experienced some of the diversity of Ontario.

1 Doors Open Ontario
From April to October, residents and visitors are invited to discover first-hand Ontario's hidden heritage treasures. It is a celebration of our cultural and architectural heritage. Some of the attractions have never been open to the public. It might be a chocolate factory in Toronto, a horse breeding farm in Oxford County, a mosque or a cemetary. Whatever attraction you visit, you will get a guided tour and it is all free

2 St Jacob Farmers Market
All year long on Saturdays. This is an attraction favored by many Europeans. The smell, the sites and the activity is unique. You can buy anything and hassle over the price. You'll see the Mennonites and Amish people with their horse and buggy, offering their fruits and vegetables. You can go inside the buildings and search through the unbelievable amount of stuff for sale, from Elvis pictures and brass statues to handmade wooden furniture. Groceries, antiques, sausages, livestock auctions, puppies, it truly is a unique experience.

3 Toronto Kensington Market
The Toronto Kengsinton Market in a way is the same as the St. Jacob market, yet it is completely different. If St Jacob is rural, then this is a city experience. The Market is a multicultural mix of shops, restaurants, vintage clothing shops, and eclectic cafes. An international feast for the senses, it's truly a great place to wander and get a sense of Toronto's rich cultural mosaic.

4 Wolf howling in Algonquin Park
Public Wolf Howls take place on Thursday evenings in August, or in September before Labour Day when weather and accessible wolves permit. Those who have been on a successful expedition unanimously agree that there is no sound which better embodies the wilderness atmosphere in Algonquin than a spine-tingling chorus of wolves, reverberating over the hills and bogs under a cold starry night. Contact Algonquin Park on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning to find out if there will be a wolf howl on Thursday, then drive over to the Park and have the experience of a lifetime. Cars will meet along the highway at points determined by the rangers.

5 Native Indian PowWow
One of the most impressive attractions when it comes to color and sound. A perfect place to bring visitors from abroad.
Canada's largest and most successful Aboriginal attraction in at the end of November in Toronto. The PowWow Grand Entry is the spectacular highlight and the entire family will enjoy the visually stunning display of nearly 1000 native dancers and drum singing groups from across North America. The pageantry and drama of the Grand Entry make it one of the most beautiful traditional Aboriginal attractions and a must see for anyone interested in native culture and customs.

6 Visit Niagara Falls in Winter.
Niagara Falls is a spectacular attraction at any time of the year. Most tourist visit it during the summer months. But nothing compares to the beauty of it during the winter. On a day when the wind is right the mist of the falls covers the area in fresh snow, the streetlights are covered with snow and ice, while the heat of the lights makes for almost sculptures of ice around the lights. If you've seen the falls during summer but never during winter, you will see them in a totally new way.

Rhode Island Attractions

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Rhode Island is a beautiful state that has, in the past, been the playground of millions of tourists, and it remains so even today. Towns such as Newport are sprinkled with mansions, giving the impression of celebrity and wealth.

Providence, the state capital of Rhode Island, is an amazingly large city with a definite New England atmosphere. The fact that the state was built on rolling hills and at the union of two rivers makes a walk through the city feel like visiting the early years of the nation. With colonial residences throughout the city, Providence carries a certain conventional atmosphere that is only broken up by Brown University, which is an Ivy League university. Newport has historically been the hot spot of attraction for the rich living on the east coast.

Astonishingly, Rhode Island, America?s smallest state, is one of the nation's wealthiest depositories of historical attractions, boasting one of the highest concentrations of the country's national historic landmarks.

Vacationers will notice that the attractions in Rhode Island are its large quantity of Colonial and Victorian dwellings, grand estates reminiscent of the gilded age, and public buildings. Rhode Island also has the nation's first enclosed shopping mall, the first manufacturing plant in America, and a wonderful 17th century fishing village. In addition, Rhode Island is home to the boyhood home of one of America's finest colonial artists as well as two houses of worship, which symbolize the roots of religious freedom in America.

The best part of Rode Island is the compact size, which makes it easy to travel from one historic site to another, as none of the historic attractions are more than an hour away from one another. Many historic locations are at a walking distance from each other.

Rhode Island remains among the favorite destinations toured by all sectors of society, thanks to its wide-ranging attractions. A great number of public parks are right next to the bodies of water, so all tourists can gain access to Narragansett Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
